Pokemon GO’s stay-at-home friendly May Community Day event is just a few weeks away, which means players have the adorable Pokemon Seedot and its evolutions on the brain. The weekend of May 24, 2020 Pokemon GO players will have six whole hours to catch as many of the Gen 3 Grass-type as possible and expand their collection with shiny spawns, evolutions, and hopefully a few more surprises.

The basic idea of Pokemon GO Community Day is pretty simple: Go out and catch a ton of pokemon for three hours, but this time around things are different. For players who need a little more direction than that, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide full of all the intel you need for the big day.

Be sure to keep in mind that this day would be a fantastic time to earn that Grass-type badge if you haven’t already acquired it. The badge isn’t particular hard to obtain for players who have been around since the beginning, but this is a great opportunity for newer players to catch up.

Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we’re back to one time at this point though.

Special Move

The exclusive Community Day move for May 2020 has not been confirmed yet. This detail should be released within the next week, so be sure to check back for more details on the move and its stat soon.

Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.

Bonuses

3× Catch XP

Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.

Buddy Pokémon with a Buddy Level of Great Buddy or higher will bring you helpful items, such as Poké Balls, throughout the event. Check out this help center article to learn how to become Great Buddies with your buddy.

Seedot will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Seedot.

Evolve Nuzleaf (the evolved form of Seedot) during the event or up to two hours afterward to get a Shiftry that knows Bullet Seed.

For US$1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access a Community Day–exclusive Special Research story—Seeing Double! Follow Professor Willow as he learns about Seedot and discovers just how much it and its evolved forms, Nuzleaf and Shiftry, enjoy messing with Trainers and Pokémon alike. Complete it to earn three Incense, five Golden Razz Berries, and other rewards.

Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!

There’ll be a special one-time-purchase May Community Day bundle, featuring an Elite Fast TM, 30 Ultra Balls, three Incense, and three Lucky Eggs.

Limited Time Field Research

Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.

Shiny Variant

Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Seedot while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.

That’s everything we know at this point! seedot is a fairly popular Pokemon (and an even more popular shiny) and is likely to give trainers a good reason to take a break from catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game so far. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

For now, players may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
