Only a couple of days ago, a new trailer was shared for the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus. However, this trailer was unique because it was presented like a found footage horror movie, with the distorted visuals and audio making it difficult to tell what’s going on. Now, the official Pokemon YouTube channel has shared the same video, but with the footage restored.

The context behind the footage is that the footage is old documentation of the Hisui region, which is what the Sinnoh region from Pokemon Diamond & Pearl used to be called, and has been restored by Professor Oak from the original Pokemon Red & Blue games. Fans had previously suspected that the footage contained a new kind of Pokemon, and it turns they were right.

Specifically, it’s a new Hisuian form of an already existing Pokemon called Zorua, which originated in Pokemon Black & White, the fifth generation of games. Unlike a normal Zorua, which is colored black, this one has white and red fur, which would explain why the person recording the footage mistook it for a Growlithe and a Vulpix.

The footage also reveals what happened to the cameraman. Shortly after coming across the Zorua, a dark shadow quickly emerges from the trees and seems to attack (or at least knock back) the cameraman. This is soon shown to be a Zoroark, the evolved form of Zorua, and much like its pre-evolution, it sports a new white and red color scheme.

Zorua and Zoroark are possibly two of the most iconic Pokemon from the Black & White games. Not only were they the first Generation 5 Pokemon to be publicly announced but were also the stars of one of the anime movies, Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

According to the PokeDex, these two are able to disguise their appearance through illusions, which is also reflected in gameplay. Both Pokemon possess the unique Illusion ability, making them appear as a different Pokemon in the player’s party, allowing them to trick and bamboozle their opponent. It’s safe to assume that the Hisuian forms possess the same ability or at least something similar.

As with previous Hisuian forms, their type is different as well. The video itself doesn’t share what it is but, according to Serebii, the Japanese Pokemon website reveals that they are a combination of Normal and Ghost type instead of Dark type. This is very interesting as it makes them the first Pokemon in the franchise to have this dual typing. Any fan of the series knows that Normal types can’t be affected by Ghost type attacks and vice versa, so this likely makes Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark immune to both.

Hopefully, Game Freak will share some more concrete details on these new Pokemon shortly. So far, this brings the number of new Hisuian forms in Pokemon Legends: Arceus up to four, along with Growlithe and Braviary. This doesn’t include new Hisui exclusive evolutions like Basculegion and Wyrdeer.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases for the Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
