By this point, it’s pretty clear that a key part of the success of the hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek is how skillfully it depicts the relationships of its primary characters. From Johnny and Moira to Jocelyn and Roland, the series excels at showing audiences couples who truly love and respect each other.

Two other couples that can claim to be the best couple are, of course, Ted and Alexis and Patrick and David. They each bring a lot to the table, and there’s a compelling case for each of them to be labeled the best relationship of the entire show.

10 Ted & Alexis: They Were Never Really Happy Unless They Were Together

When Alexis first appears on the show, she doesn’t seem to quite know what she wants, and that extends to romance. While she gets with Ted twice and breaks their engagement twice, she never seems to find happiness with anyone else, and the same can be said of him.

Clearly, there’s something that the two of them share that they simply cannot find with another person, and it’s great that they at least got to spend some happy times together as a couple.

9 David And Patrick: They Actually Lasted

While Ted and Alexis have their ons and offs, Patrick and David prove surprisingly stable from the very beginning. It may take each of them a little while to get the hang of their relationship, but once they do, there’s no doubt that they are in it for the long haul.

This is truly extraordinary, especially because there are relatively few gay couples on television that don’t have to go through the twists and turns of a relationship. Instead, they love each other, and that’s all they need.

It takes a pretty sweet type of person to forgive someone for breaking off their engagement to date someone else (a questionable life choice, to be sure), and it takes an even more extraordinary person to forgive someone for doing it twice. However, that’s exactly what Ted does with Alexis.

It’s really quite touching, and it’s a reminder that, whatever the future holds in store for them, they each clearly loved one another quite a lot and could overlook a lot of flaws. What’s more, it reveals that Ted is one of the sweetest characters in the show.

7 David And Patrick: The Serenade

Has there ever been a sweeter moment than when Patrick serenaded David with a rendition of Tina Turner’s “The Best”? It was one of those moments where it was really clear that there was something powerful and intimate between the two of them, and the look on David’s face while his man sings to him is one that will go down in the annals of television as a master class in acting.

The viewer can basically feel David’s heart-melting right there on the spot.

6 Ted & Alexis: Alexis Was Willing To Let Him Go

As the final season of the show comes close to its conclusion, it becomes clear that something has to give in terms of the relationship between Alexis and Ted, for while they love each other, their professional lives are leading them in different directions.

It says a lot about how Alexis has grown and changed as a character that she was willing and able to let him go, even as she could also say that she would always love him (and, of course, that he would always love her).

5 David And Patrick: They Ran A Business Together

Relationships are notoriously difficult things, and they often require each party to give up something of themselves in order to become part of a greater whole.

David and Patrick seem to excel at this particular aspect of being together and, considering the fact that they run a very involved business together (which itself creates all sorts of difficulties for even the most compatible of couples), that’s really something. Many people in the real world probably want to know their secret.

4 Ted & Alexis: They Made Each Other Better Versions Of Themselves

The mark of a successful relationship is when each party manages to bring out the best in one another, and that’s exactly what happens with Ted and Alexis.

Time and again, they each brought something unique to the table, with Ted helping Alexis to learn to be a bit more mature (she could be quite annoying at times) and Alexis allowing Ted to loosen up a little bit. They truly were a great match, and it’s very sad that they weren’t able to make their relationship last.

3 David And Patrick: The House

It makes sense that, as the Roses begin to rebuild their fortunes, that David would want to move back to his old life in New York City. As it turns out, however, Patrick has other plans, and it ends up that the two of them buy a house together (it’s one of David’s sweetest moments, to be sure).

It’s an absolutely fitting ending for the two of them, and Patrick’s promise that he will do everything in his power to make sure that David finds happiness here is one of the sweetest things that one man has ever said to another.

2 Ted & Alexis: How Hard They Were Willing To Try During The Galapagos

Once Ted moves to the Galapagos to become part of a research group, it’s clear that it’s going to be very difficult for them to maintain their relationship. Time and again, however, they really do try to make it work, even dealing with all of the complications and inefficiencies of Skype.

Though it obviously isn’t quite what either of them would have liked, one can’t help but admire their willingness to give it so much effort.

1 David And Patrick: The Proposal

After a certain point, it started to seem inevitable that Patrick and David were going to get married; they were just so right for each other. The only question was how and when. As it turns out, Patrick had an elaborate (and very sweet) plan to ask David on a hike, but things went awry.

Nevertheless, they still managed to make the most of it, and the look on David’s face as the love his life asks him to marry him is truly precious, and both Dan Levy and Noah Wilson deserve a ton of credit for giving their all in this enormously important scene.
