Sekiro How to Upgrade Prosthetic Tools

As many are diving into From Software’s latest release, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, many are likely learning the ropes in order to die less. This includes using skill points as quickly as possible, with even one skill being the difference in life and death between the game’s various bosses.

However, another small detail players will want to master quickly is upgrading the one-armed wolf’s prosthetic tools. Yet Sekiro is not as straightforward with it as it could be, so follow this guide to upgrade the prosthetic in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Step 1: Beat Gyoubu Oniwa

The first thing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice players will want to accomplish is beating Gyobu Oniwa. Players can encounter him in Ashina Outskirts, Ashina Castle Gate Fortress idol. One simple yet safe strategy for this particular boss is to block and dodge until he does a heavy strike that temporarily leaves him defenseless.

Defeating Oniwa will force the boss enemy to drop the Mechanical Barrel key item, the necessary component to unlocking prosthetic tool upgrades following the loss of the main character’s arm during his seemingly impossible fight with Genichiro Ashina at the start of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Step 2: Unlock the Prosthetic Upgrades

Once Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice players have the Bechanical Barrel, simply travel to the Sculptor at the Dilapidated Temple and he will unlock the various upgrades. These upgrades will require money and materials such as Gunpowder and Scrap Metal, but it’s worth mentioning that unlocking all of these upgrades is tied to the “Master of the Prosthetic” achievement/trophy, meaning many will want to be looking seriously at these rewards.

Doing so will hopefully make some fights in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice slightly easier for those struggling with the From Software title. For those who somehow think the game isn’t hard enough, it’s worth adding that ringing a Demon Bell (despite being told not to) will trigger a type of Sekiro hard mode that many may want to test out – with the appropriate upgrades, of course.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
