Sex Education has proven to be a real hit for Netflix so far and one of the reasons for that is because of the incredible ensemble cast that the series has put together. While the likes of Otis, Eric, and Maeve dominate a lot of the story and screentime, there are tons of excellent supporting characters which round out the show.

Whether they’re adults who’re involved in their children’s storylines, or whether they’re part of the school itself, every character really adds to the show. While not all of the supporting characters are up to the standards of the lead roles who have such huge personalities, there are a lot of tremendous supporting roles within Sex Education which really help to make it enjoyable to watch.

10 Ruthie

Ruthie is someone that fans are hoping to see a lot more from in season three, and that is a sign of how fun she’s been as a character so far in the show. She hasn’t been highlighted quite as much as other supporting roles, but Ruthie is incredibly funny.

She is very dry with her delivery and that brings a slightly different sense of humor to the show which makes her stand out. Ruthie is also incredibly confident and doesn’t have any problem in saying exactly what’s on her mind, which makes all of her scenes exciting to watch.

9 Cynthia

Cynthia can be found at the caravan park where Maeve lives, as she is the owner of the park. However, she has a soft heart when it comes to the Wiley family and she often finds herself helping them out wherever possible, which fits in with shouting at her husband, Jeffrey.

Cynthia has yet to be given a big storyline, but she is one of the funniest characters in the show, and anytime she appears something funny can be guaranteed, which makes her brilliant.

8 Emily Sands

Unlike, Ruthie, Emily Sands is one of the adult characters in Sex Education, as an English teacher at the school. While she’s clearly a very intelligent person and someone who focuses on her job, she also showcases her wild side within her relationship with Colin, which brings a fun element to her character.

However, the main reason she’s such a great role is because of the passion and care that she clearly has for her students. This is particularly clear with Maeve Wiley, who she vocally supports and pushes to be the best version of herself, often sticking herself on the line to help her.

7 Anwar

Anwar is seen as the leader of the ‘Untouchables,’ and he has no problem giving out his honest thoughts and feelings of everyone at school, no matter how negative they might be. He tends to judge absolutely everybody around him, including his own best friends.

However, Anwar can be really funny with his comments, even if he is a little harsh at times. He takes a lot of pride in his appearance and is very confident within himself too, which is refreshing to see and makes him a really enjoyable character overall.

6 Mr. Groff

Mr. Groff is certainly a controversial character in Sex Education because he is technically the most unlikeable character in the show due to how he treats his son. However, there are a lot of layers to his personality, and that is what makes him a really interesting character overall.

Not every character in a television show can be about happiness and comedy, and Principal Groff does balance that out. The stress he’s under at work clearly takes a toll on him, which he hilarious deals with by wolfing down chocolate bars in rapid speed, which are some of the funniest scenes in the show.

5 Maureen Groff

Maureen Groff was only brought into the show properly in the second season, and she quickly became a firm fan favorite. She clearly had enough of her husband and seeing her step up, ask for a divorce and start to come out of her shell was really enjoyable to watch.

It helped her become one of the stronger characters in the show, with her blossoming friendship with Jean being a lot of fun to see play out. Seeing Maureen’s change in confidence was a great arc, and hopefully, that will only continue in the third season.

4 Vivienne Odesanya

Vivienne Odesanya was added to the show for the second season and took up the stereotypical role of being a ‘nerd.’ However, she quickly ended up breaking out of that with her friendship with the school’s jock, Jackson. She’s someone who is incredibly intelligent, but she brings a lot more than that to the show.

Viv is always there to give advice and help academically, but she’s also very kind, as she tries to help Jackson with his own anxiety issues. She’s a positive person and someone who has great energy and an infectious personality, which makes her a lot of fun to watch.

3 Olivia Hanan

Olivia Hanan is part of ‘The Untouchables,’ and because of that, she can be seen as a bully at points. However, it’s clear that she’s not exactly the same as the rest of the group, as she does show moments of being a lot kinder when she’s away from them, which is why she’s such a great character.

Olivia is sharp-tongued and has no problem in letting people know her thoughts, which can be very funny. Her laid back attitude and constant bubblegum pops are very funny, with her back and forth friendship with Ruby being an exciting part of the show as well.

2 Colin Hendricks

Colin Hendricks is a brilliant character who really adds a lot to the series whenever he appears. Colin is one of the teachers at the school, but he is someone who tries to be relatable to the kids, trying to crack jokes with them to be friendly, which does come across very well with some hilarious moments.

Despite the fact he tries a little too hard to seem cool, he does have the children’s best interests at heart as a teacher, which does make him a fun and likeable character. Plus, his relationship outside of school with Miss Sands brings tons of funny moments as he tries to adapt dirty talk into his life.

1 Lily Iglehart

Lily Iglehart is showcased a lot throughout the show, and she has plenty of interactions with the main characters such as Otis, who she attempts to have sex with, as well as Ola who she ends up in a relationship with. Lily brings a lot of great comedy to Sex Education with her eccentric personality.

She is very keen to lose her virginity throughout the show, and she has a real passion for all things sex-related with her love of erotic alien-related comics and roleplays, which she hilarious brings into the school play. She also has a great heart, providing advice and help to her friends, making her a brilliant character.
