Sifu How to Defeat Kuroki The Artist

Sifu introduces players to a new type of martial arts experience that combines timing with patience to create a one-of-a-kind roguelike action experience. While there are only five levels, each of them is capped off with a boss that pushes the limits of difficulty and requires different but equally challenging strategies to overcome and defeat. However, due to the game’s punishing mechanics, it’s often best to plan a means of attack before stepping foot in the boss arena.

In Sifu, players take on the role of a student who witnessed the death of their master and was executed after being discovered. Fortunately, a collection of magical talismans brought the student back to life, giving them the ability to die and revive, but at the cost of years of their life. This makes it especially difficult to take on enemies while maintaining the student’s youth as they continue on their path of revenge. One enemy that has the potential to take a large number of lives is Kuroki, a.k.a. The Artist. Not only is she the fastest enemy out of the five, but she’s also the most aggressive and unpredictable. As a result, there are specific parameters that players must complete to stand a solid chance against this enemy.

When it comes to the level itself, a first playthrough of the museum opens a shortcut leading to an elevator. When players return to the level, they will be able to bypass most of it and ascend straight to Kuroki. However, before even thinking about throwing a punch, it’s crucial that players unlock the Strong Sweep move. Since this uses a focus bar, it’s best to ensure they’ve collected rewards that gain focus with every evade. It’s also recommended that players achieve more than one focus bar to ensure multiple chances to sweep the boss and control the fight’s pace. Consider the Weapon Catch ability. While it isn’t necessary, it comes in handy during the second phase of the boss fight, as does taking a bladed weapon or bat into the battle to begin with.

Kuroki’s boss arena is a snowy open space, and she carries a three-sectioned staff with blades on both ends. These weapons prove devastating in the first phase and keep players from getting in close. She also has a twirling attack that she uses to chase the player across the field. It’s best to run from this attack as it can inflict significant damage with only a few hits.

The best way to beat Kuroki isn’t the most stylish, and it takes some time, but it opens the player up for more attacks when the time is right. As Kuroki twirls her staff over her head, she will eventually activate a stronger move indicated by her arms glowing orange. Following the attack, she will overhead smash her staff into the snow. If close enough to her, players can evade all of these attacks and weave to the side to inflict some damage when she’s done. This method should be repeated until her structure bar is full, leaving her open to a takedown.

After the first phase is completed, Kuroki’s style will change as her color palette switches from white to black. Her arena also transforms into still water, which could potentially trick the eyes due to its reflective surface. Kuroki also gets much faster and trades her staff for throwing knives. She has three attack styles that she will use. The first is a backflip wherein she throws knives at the player. These can be easily evaded. However, after she lands, she will throw more. The Weapon Catch ability will allow players to catch one of the knives to throw back for minimal damage.

Second, she has a combo string that she uses that can also be evaded. She ends this string with a dive kick that should be avoided by weaving to the side and following up with strikes. The combo will likely inflict some damage, so it’s best to always be on guard. Finally, she has a hyperfast dash attack that is teased with a brief flash before she lunges forward. To dodge this, players need only weave to the side.

After following these steps and implementing strong sweeps whenever possible, players will have the chance for a final takedown. Following victory, the student will then stab her and leave her for dead in the snow. However, if they would rather spare Kuroki, it’s best to bring down her health bar and wait for the option to appear. The Artist is fast and malicious, but by following her timing windows, even she can be overcome.
