Sons Of Anarchy What Mr Mayhem Stands For

What does “Mr. Mayhem” stand for on Sons Of Anarchy and why is meeting him such a bad thing? Sons Of Anarchy is an intense biker drama created by Kurt Sutter (The Shield), who based it (very loosely) around Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The show revolves around Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), a member of the titular group and his various complicated family issues, including his mother Gemma being married to the club’s president Clay.

Sons Of Anarchy ran for seven seasons and featured some superb performances and storylines, though its visceral scenes of violence could be disturbing to sit through. It ended in a fittingly Shakespearian manner too, with many of its main characters dead by the time the final series ended. It later spawned a spinoff called Mayans MC, which centers on the titular rival gang of SAMCRO. While Sutter was involved with the first two seasons of the series, he was later fired by FX following reports of bad behavior during the production of the second series.

Even an outlaw biker gang needs organization and Sons Of Anarchy issues varies patches to members to represent their status. Self-explanatory examples including the “President” and “Vice President” patches, but then there are more specific examples like “First 9,” which was given to the first nine founding members of SAMCRO, or the “Sergeant At Arms” patch, given to a member who acts as the President’s righthand and also disciplines wayward members.

One of the more ominous terms on Sons Of Anarchy is “Mr. Mayhem,” and if the club votes for a member to “meet Mr. Mayhem,” that means they want them killed. An example of this would be the fifth season episode where SAMCRO vote to strip Frankie Diamonds (Chuck Zito) of his membership and for him to meet “Mr. Mayhem” for his betrayal of the club. Those who’ve committed killings for SAMCRO are given a special “Men of Mayhem” patch for their actions too.

So basically, “Mr. Mayhem” means death on Sons Of Anarchy, and doesn’t refer to a specific character. Given how the series came to an end its extremely unlikely a revival will happen, with Charlie Hunnam ruling out ever reprising Jax. This even extends to make some kind of cameo on Mayans M.C., as he feels personally finished with the character. Of course, maybe a future revival could feature on Jax’s children getting sucked into the club, but there don’t appear to be any current plans to bring back Sons Of Anarchy.
