Teen Wolf 10 Main Characters Ranked By Likeability

The supernatural MTV series Teen Wolf finished its six-season run three years ago, but fans still miss the show and its extensive cast of characters. When the series premiered in 2011, it didn’t have the established fan base it has now. It was originally pitched as a darker, more supernaturally driven version of the 1985 Teen Wolf film, though its later seasons diverge from this premise.

The series often infuses comedy into its episodes and gives almost every character a chance to shine in a moment of comic relief. Some characters, meanwhile, must face difficult decisions or heartbreak, while others still are the ones to cause this heartbreak. Even the good guys sometimes make questionable choices, and the bad guys often have a reason for theirs. Here are the main characters of Teen Wolf, ranked by likeability.

10 Peter Hale

Peter Hale starts off as a mysterious figure who is bound to a wheelchair, unable to move or speak, and seemingly incapable of consciousness. Stiles soon figures out that he is the Alpha, but Peter doesn’t prove to be a threat for very long.

By season two, he’s no longer the Alpha, but he’s still decidedly evil. He turns Lydia into a banshee and continues tormenting her throughout the second season. Later, he dwindles into a snarky albeit annoying character who subtly tries to undermine Scott’s well-intentioned authority. Even though he can be funny, nobody really likes Peter.

9 Jackson Whittemore

Jackson is introduced as Scott’s high school nemesis, but their rivalry is mostly just Jackson being jealous of Scott for improving his lacrosse skills. It may also have something to do with the fact that Scott is having more success finding a loving girlfriend.

Jackson is mean, spiteful, deceitful, and selfish, though he does begin change by the end of season 2. When he returns for the series finale, he’s almost unrecognizable. He clearly has more compassion, a sense of righteousness, and treats other characters with respect.

8 Derek Hale

Derek is not at all what he seems to be at first – which is a mysterious man who always wears black and stares a lot. He takes on the role of mentor for Scott, though he probably isn’t the best person for the role.

Derek makes a few mistakes on his journey to become an Alpha, then simply try to be a good person. Viewers learn about his painful past, which makes people sympathize with him even more than when he found out he was being tricked by the darach. Everyone also loves to see Derek share scenes with Stiles, as the two make for a hilarious pair.

7 Isaac Lahey

Isaac is another character who isn’t perfect but is worthy of sympathy nevertheless. He lives in an abusive environment with his father, working the night shift at a graveyard, when he turns into a werewolf. He finds his place with Scott and his friends and even becomes like a brother to Scott for some time.

He later enters a relationship with Allison and is heartbroken when she dies. After breaking away from Derek’s pack to join Scott, Isaac becomes a great friend and ally to the good guys. He also shares a strong emotional connection with the Argent family, first with Allison, and then with Chris.

6 Malia Tate

Malia only enters the show in the third season, but immediately, she is an intriguing character. She is a coyote who then tries to learn to become human, which makes for a fascinating character arc.

Malia is blunt, stubborn, and doesn’t mince her words. Still, she comes to love Stiles even while she struggles to fit in with their other human friends at school. She briefly breaks away from Scott’s pack to try and deal with the problem of her mother, the Desert Wolf.

5 Allison Argent

Allison is Scott’s first love, and someone he continues to love even after she dies. When she dies, she leaves a gaping hole in the show and in the pack dynamic. In season 1, she’s a sweet, innocent girl who suddenly learns about the darker side of her family history. Her entire world is turned upside down when she learns that her boyfriend is a werewolf.

She becomes vengeful after her mother dies, and then settles down again at the end of season 2. In the third season, she chooses to support Scott and her other friends as a capable huntress. She’s also very clever and intuitive and uses her knowledge to discover a way to kill the Oni, sacrificing herself in the process.

4 Liam Dunbar

Liam is only introduced in the show’s fourth season, at a time when the show needed some added lightheartedness and comedy in the wake of Allison and Aiden’s deaths. He essentially serves as a younger version of who Scott used to be, but with a few unique personality quirks. He’s awkward, somewhat arrogant, very athletically talented, and has anger management issues.

Scott accidentally turns him into a werewolf, leaving him and Stiles to mentor him while he just wants to be a normal teenager with his girlfriend. Liam and his circle of friends gradually rise to step into the place of Scott’s pack when they leave Beacon Hills. Liam is adorably funny in his shy awkwardness and self-deprecation.

3 Lydia Martin

Lydia has possibly the greatest character development throughout the series. She begins as a shallow, self-absorbed popular girl who enjoys putting others down and reminding everyone of how great she is.

As she comes to accept her banshee abilities and be proud of how smart she is, she also realizes her value. She uses her skills to help Scott fight for what is right and stick by her friends because she truly likes who they are. By the last season, she’s an irreplaceable figure in the pack.

2 Scott McCall

Scott is the hero of the show, the one who decides which course the story will take, and the person who has to make most of the decisions. He is a nobody when the show starts, but he becomes a sort of guardian of Beacon Hills, keeping everyone safe while they don’t even know it.

Scott is intrinsically good, even when he makes mistakes. He sometimes loses his way, as any hero does, but at the end of the day, he puts others first and keeps the world of Beacon Hills in perfect working order. He suffers loss and heartache but never loses his sense of morality.

1 Stiles Stilinski

Stiles may not be the hero of the story, but he’s definitely the fan-favorite. He is Scott’s loyal best friend, the son of Sheriff Stilinski, and second son to Melissa McCall. He is an instrumental member of the pack because he adds so much to the mystery-solving side of things. He also gives Scott advice whenever he needs it.

Apart from being goofy and hilarious, Stiles is very kind and compassionate. He befriends Malia and helps her through her transition to human life, and later saves Lydia from Eichen House. Everything he does is driven by his love for his friends and desire to help protect Beacon Hills.
