The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

When you think about Dreamworks, most people instantly think of the main heroes such as Shrek, or Hiccup or the movies in general. And while that makes sense due to the fact they’re the main focus of the films, all great movies have a great villain.

People often talk about the classic Disney or Pixar villains such as Captain Hook, or Scar, but not enough love and appreciation are given to the fantastic villains that Dreamworks have created throughout the years. While you are supposed to hate these characters, if that is the feeling that you have then the job has worked, and within this article, we are going to rank the 10 greatest villains from the Dreamworks library.

10 Captain DuBois (Madagascar 3)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

We kick this list off with the psychotic Captain DuBois who is the head of Animal Control in Monte Carlo in Madagascar 3 and stops at nothing to ensure she tracks down her animal targets using her incredible sense of smell, which is almost dog-like.

When she finds out about the escaped zoo animals, DuBois does everything in her power to hunt them down, paying particular attention to Alex due to the fact she has never caught a lion and wants his head for her collection. While DuBois isn’t a particularly fleshed-out character in terms of her backstory, she is just plain scary and determined to kill the lead characters, which is what makes her such a memorable villain.

9 Pitch Black (Rise Of The Guardians)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

When you create the boogeyman himself, you have to go all out and make him into a top villain and that is exactly what Dreamworks did in Rise Of The Guardians with Pitch Black attempting to turn the entire world into darkness.

The rest of the guardians try to spread joy, with Santa and the Easter Bunny being examples of that, but Pitch Black is all about evil, which makes him so great as he goes up against some of the most beloved characters in the entire world. Pitch is quite a psychological character for an animated kids movie, with the character playing on his enemies’ biggest fears. Which makes him even scarier as he knows exactly what people are thinking and worrying about.

8 General Mandible (Antz)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

Much like Hopper in the very similar Pixar animation A Bugs Life, General Mandible is an amazing villain who strikes fear into everyone with his menacing voice and horrible actions, making him incredibly unlikeable throughout the entire film.

With Mandible threatening to wipe out the entire working population of ants, it is clear right from the start that he is someone that you don’t want to mess with. Because he has no redeeming qualities and is purely nasty, it does make him a top villain.

7 Toad (Flushed Away)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

Toad is another great villain who has a fantastic backstory to match, going from a beloved pet in Buckingham Palace to being replaced by a rat and sent down the drain, making him vindictive with a heart full of hate, especially for rats.

Because of that, his plot to wash away all rodents is one that makes sense and, to a point, you can sympathize with him. Which is often the key to a fantastic villain. With his fantastic presence and his switches from a posh and sophisticated character to a complete crazed mad man, Toad really is a brilliant villain.

6 Mrs. Tweedy (Chicken Run)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

Chicken Run is one of Dreamworks’ most underrated movies that doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit, and because of that Mrs. Tweedy as a character in turn also gets underrated even though she is actually one of the best that has been created as she is terrifying.

While she is only trying to run a farm, Mrs. Tweedy takes it to a different level and almost turns the entire thing into a prison situation, loving the process of slaughtering chickens who couldn’t lay eggs, with Tweedy having absolutely zero redeeming qualities. All she focuses on is growing her pie-making business and it doesn’t matter how she does it. With her sinister smile and sickening cackle, Tweedy will put the fear into anyone.

5 Lord Farquaad (Shrek)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

He was always going to make the list, wasn’t he? Lord Farquaad is one of the most well-known villains from Dreamworks, mainly because Shrek itself is one of the most popular animated movies of all time. But a big reason for that is how good Farquaad is as a villain.

While he might be small in size, he more than makes up for that with how menacing he is, doing everything in his power to make Princess Fiona his queen, with his ego being one of the biggest in Dreamworks history. With a distinct voice and a sinister plan, with no deed he won’t stoop too in order to get the task done, Farquaad is a detested villain, which makes him one of the best.

4 Eris (Sinbad: Tale Of The Seven Seas)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

Another fantastic Dreamworks villain is Eris, who can be found in Sinbad: Tale Of The Seven Seas, which is another Dreamworks movie that isn’t talked about enough. As the Goddess of chaos, her entire purpose is to bring mischief and that is exactly what she does, setting monsters such as the Kraken and giant scorpions to attack, putting the world into ruin.

With the ability to change her size, Eris can be incredibly scary at times and with a very calm voice she is unlike most villains in that she seems relaxed, but really she is just being cunning and thinking up her next plan.

3 Fairy Godmother (Shrek 2)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

While the idea of a middle-aged woman who is a Fairy Godmother being a villain might seem totally ridiculous, it is because you expect her to be sweet-natured and kind that she works so well as a villain.

At the start of the movie, she is portrayed as being kind, although throughout the film her real motives are quickly realized as she actually helps Fiona’s father to try and change things and make Fiona end up with her son, Prince Charming. With a killer vocal number and a secret reveal to being a villain, the Fairy Godmother is one of the most memorable villains in the history of Dreamworks, which is why she has to rank highly.

2 Lord Shen (Kung Fu Panda 2)

The 10 Best Dreamworks Villains Ranked

The Kung Fu Panda series has some fantastic villains throughout, but Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2 is the pick of the bunch and is also one of the greatest Dreamworks villains as well. Lord Shen was incredibly calm at times, which made him very scary, with his calmness putting the fear in you until he would lose his cool and snap you back, reminding you just how horrible he was, with his mission being to conquer all of China.

With a horrendous mission like that, you know he is a top villain as he weaponizes fireworks and brings the wolves together as an army, he really was a fearsome leader.

1 Ramses II (The Prince Of Egypt)

When it comes to Dreamworks’ ultimate villain, Ramses II from The Prince Of Egypt really is the ultimate choice as the movie takes a new twist on the popular tale between Ramses II and Moses, doing so in excellent fashion.

When Ramses is named Pharaoh, the pressures of living up to his father, and leading the people, becomes too much for him and he is forced to choose between loyalty to his family and the love that he has deep down for his brother, creating a great inner conflict. He wants to have a great legacy, despite how hard he is attempting to work the slaves, something he is too blind to see due to the power that has taken control of him.
