With rumors swirling around the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have found a renewed interest in past Spider-Man movies. And while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is generally seen as the least popular of the bunch, it is also not without its merits.

Though there are clearly some issues in this overstuffed movie, it does try some bold things and even had some fans excited about where the Andrew Garfield-led Spider-Man adventures would go next. Even if the overall movie isn’t as beloved as other Spider-Man movies, there are some moments that stand out in the sequel.

10 Gwen Accidentally Says Peter’s Name

Though Peter Parker generally likes to keep his identity a secret, it doesn’t take him long to tell Gwen Stacy that he is Spider-Man. It makes sense given that Gwen is one of Peter Parker’s most iconic love interests and it adds an interesting dynamic to their relationship.

While Gwen is good at keeping the secret, she loses her cool when Spider-Man swings off to save the day without her. In a rage, she screams, “Peter!” before realizing her mistake and covering her mouth. It is a great bit of comedic delivery from Emma Stone.

9 Spider-Man Faces Off With Rhino

Rhino seems to rank somewhere in between cool and laughable for Spider-Man villains, but plenty of fans were excited to see the character finally appear in a live-action movie. Sadly, part of the reason it is so memorable is for how brief the appearance is.

Paul Giamatti appears in the opening sequence as Aleksei Sytsevich, who steals an armored truck before confronting Spider-Man. He then returns at the end of the movie in a robotic rhino suit, but the movie ends just as they’re about to fight. As fun as it was to see the character brought to life, it was also quite a disappointment.

8 Aunt May Tells Peter He Is Her Boy

Though Aunt May has appeared in every Spider-Man movie, she mostly gets pushed to the side. That is most true for this version as Sally Field gets very little to do in either movie. However, she does make the most of one emotional scene in this sequel.

As Peter tries to learn more about his parents and their dark secrets, May reminds him that she is the one who has been looking after him his whole life. She tells him that Peter is her boy in her own mind. It is a touching moment that helps to remind audiences of how important this relationship is.

7 Peter’s Parents Die In A Plane Crash

One of the biggest mistakes this movie makes is spending too much time on the mysteries and espionage surrounding Peter’s parents. As muddled and out-of-place as this storyline is, it makes for a thrilling action sequence to open the movie.

After leaving Peter with his aunt and uncle, Peter’s parents attempt to flee in a private airplane, knowing they will be hunted their whole lives. Then one of the pilots turns out to be an assassin, which leads to an intense fight on the plane as it falls from the sky. It is not a typical Spider-Man action sequence, but it starts the movie off with a bang.

6 Max Dillon’s Transformation Into Electro

Jamie Foxx’s villainous turn in this movie is an interesting variation of Electro from Marvel comics. While some fans didn’t love the blue appearance, the character’s transformation scene was a memorably over-the-top moment.

As the disrespected and lonely Oscorp employee is mending a broken bit of machinery, he is electrocuted. To make matters worse, he then falls into an aquarium filled with electric eels that proceed to shock him, turning him into the supervillain. If the rest of the movie had been this outrageous it could have been a lot more fun.

5 Gwen Says She Loves Peter Parker More

The best aspect of The Amazing Spider-Man movies has always been the relationship between Peter and Gwen. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have great chemistry together that helps make the characters’ romance far more compelling than the action sequences.

As Peter continues to struggle to balance his life as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, Gwen reminds him that she loves that he is Spider-Man, but it was Peter whom she fell in love with. This really defined the love story of Gwen and Peter as it has nothing to do with him being a superhero.

4 Peter Decides To Go To England With Gwen

One subplot of the movie involves Gwen getting an opportunity to attend Oxford University in England which would mean the end of her relationship with Peter. While Peter spends much of the movie trying to come to terms with losing her, he ultimately makes a decision to go with her.

It is a very unique moment in a comic book movie where a hero allows themselves to make a decision that will make them happy. But as audiences try to imagine Spider-Man fighting crime in England, it only sets up the tragic ending for these two characters.

3 Spider-Man’s Time Square Fight With Electro

Spider-Man faces off with Electro for the first time in the middle of Time Square, which makes for an appropriately big and fun sequence. It gives the audience a glimpse of Electro’s considerable power while also giving Spider-Man the opportunity to pull off some great heroics.

There is a neat moment when Electro, who has been overlooked his entire life, suddenly sees his image projected onto every screen around him. And the slow-motion sequence of Spider-Man identifying various dangers and saving the bystanders is impressive.

2 The Sinister Six Tease

One of the biggest complaints about this movie is how it is so overstuffed with trying to set up the future of the franchise. What makes it all the more frustrating is that all that setup ultimately led to nothing. But fans did still get the thrill of imagining some iconic villains showing up in the future.

Fans have waited for the villainous team of the Sinister Six from Spider-Man comics to make a big-screen debut for years. The ending of this movie seemed to tease that possibility as Harry Osborn begins putting a team together with glimpses of Vulture and Doc Ock’s equipment.

1 Gwen Stacy’s Death

Though many fans were already familiar with the comic book storyline this movie was loosely adapting, the decision to kill off Gwen Stacy was a bold one. Just as in the comics, it is at the hands of the Green Goblin as Spider-Man desperately tries to save her.

The action sequence leading up to the moment is intense and the audience is left holding their breath the entire time. But her ultimate demise is shocking and brutal, delivering a painful end to the movie. Despite the issues with this franchise, the aftermath of this story would have been fascinating to explore.
