8 J. Edgar (2011) – 6.5/10

This biographical crime drama takes the bottom spot on the list, but of course, we still love it enough to give it a watch. Directed by Clint Eastwood, this movie tells the story of J. Edgar Hoover, a powerful man that headed the FBI for fifty years. He looks back on his professional life, and of course, the personal parts as well.

DiCaprio takes the lead role, but this flick also has a cast which includes Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, and many more. This movie tackles Hoover’s fight against communism and the high profile cases that shaped his career, and will definitely keep you intrigued.

7 The Great Gatsby (2013) – 7.3/10

What a better way to celebrate the upcoming ’20s than a movie from the ’20s. The 1920s, of course, and this flick is based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This movie is directed by the brilliant Baz Luhrmann and has become one of DiCaprio’s most iconic roles. Of course, he plays Mr. Gatsby himself, and we’re betting you all know the meme of him raising a champagne glass. He stars alongside Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, and Tobey Maguire (who narrates the story).

This film is mesmerizing and visually stunning, not to mention one of the most classic tales of all time. We literally couldn’t imagine the Great Gatsby as anyone other than Leonardo DiCaprio.

6 Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) – 7.9/10

This is one of DiCaprio’s newest films, and honestly, it’s probably one of the most intriguing roles he’s ever played. Taking place in 1960s Hollywood, the Golden Age, he plays Rick Dalton, a famous and rich television actor whose fame is fading away. He stars alongside Brad Pitt, who plays his stunt double.

This is Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, and it’s absolutely mesmerizing from start to finish. There’s humor, behind-the-scenes goodness, brilliant acting, and a crime-filled twist ending. You can also find Margot Robbie, Austin Butler, Al Pacino, and Dakota Fanning in the mix, but our eyes are always on DiCaprio, and this performance is astounding.

5 The Revenant (2015) – 8.0/10

This is the movie that finally let DiCaprio bring home his long-anticipated (and long deserved) Academy Award for Best Actor. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu (who also won an Oscar for this movie), this flick takes place in the 1820s and follows the story of a frontiersman (DiCaprio) who embarks on a fur trading expedition.

After being brutally attacked by a bear, he’s left for dead by his hunting party. He then must fight for his survival in the frigid winter. Tom Hardy and Will Poulter are a couple of other actors in this movie, but we know that Leo stole the show, and clearly an Oscar.

4 Shutter Island (2010) – 8.1/10

This is probably one of DiCaprio’s most confusing and intriguing films. Taking place in 1954, a U.S. Marshal (DiCaprio) is tasked to investigate the disappearance of a murderer. The catch, though, is she escaped from a mental hospital for the criminally insane, on a remote and far away island.

The marshall and his partner (Mark Ruffalo) try to make sense of the case amidst crime, horrid weather, and the mentally insane. This movie will definitely throw you for a loop, but you expect to be totally confused after a Martin Scorsese film. Of course, this is probably one of Leo’s most iconic recent films.

3 The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) – 8.2/10

This is another role that has been immortalized by memes and, of course, his stellar performance in embracing the part. In this biography crime drama, DiCaprio portrays real-life Jordan Belfort. The movie follows this stockbroker’s rise to wealth, but also his downfall into crime and corruption.

The movies is also directed by Martin Scorsese, so clearly this pair is absolutely stellar at making movies. This film also has Rob Reiner, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Favreau, Jon Bernthal, and many more in its cast. Honestly, this film is one of our all-time favorites. Plus, DiCaprio once again absolutely slays this role (and scored an Oscar nomination for it).

2 Django Unchained (2012) – 8.4/10

Quentin Tarantino teams up with this brilliant actor once again, except this flick takes the silver medal on the list. The Western Drama follows a bounty hunter – a freed slave who tries to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner in Mississippi.

Jamie Foxx takes the lead, but you can bet that DiCaprio’s part is absolutely mind-blowing as Calvin Candle. If you haven’t seen this Tarantino flick, we suggest you get on it immediately. Plus, you can also find Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson. While this movie isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s action-packed, drama-full, and absolutely brilliant for all Tarantino lovers.

1 Inception (2010) – 8.8/10

It might not be surprising that this roller-coaster of a film takes the top spot on the list. If you thought Shutter Island was complicated, wait until you feast your eyes on this flick.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, this sci-fi action-adventure follows a thief who steals corporate secrets through new dream-sharing technology. As a fugitive, he is then given the task to plant an idea into the mind of a CEO.

Starring alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Hardy, this movie will definitely throw your mind for a HUGE loop. It has all you could need for a technological, sci-fi, and mind-blowing film, and this cast is absolutely brilliant. Of course, we expect nothing less from DiCaprio, and we’re happy to give this incredible and iconic film the number one spot.
