The Mandalorian Season 2 Who Plays Gor Koresh

The Mandalorian’s season 2 premiere, “Chapter 9: The Marshal,” introduces an unscrupulous underworld crime boss called Gor Koresh. While his one-eyed face is certainly distinctive, it’s not one that audiences will have seen elsewhere – but they might recognizae the actor who plays Gor Koresh: John Leguizamo.

The Mandalorian season 2 kicks off with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and The Child visiting an underground fight club. Inside, Gor Karesh sits ringside while two Gamorreans battle it out, wearing a comb-over and some elegant attire for the event. Din Djarin inquires about where he can find other Mandalorians, as they’ll be able to help deliver The Child back to the Jedi Order. However, Mando’s underground contact refuses to cooperate.

As it turns out, Gor Koresh never planned to help the Mandalorian, and instead attempts to take his extremely valuable beskar armor. But after Mando utilizes his whistling birds and takes down Koresh’s henchmen, he learns that help can indeed be found at Tatooine. After questioning poor Gor Koresh, Din Djarin leaves him hanging upside down – a snack for the looming red-eyed creatures in the darkness. Disney+ streamers may be surprised to learn that the ill-fated Abyssin character is voiced by Hollywood veteran John Leguizamo, whose other voice acting credits include Sid the sloth in the Ice Age movie franchise.

Leguizamo delivered a breakthrough performance as PFC Antonio Diaz in the 1989 film Casualties of War, and subsequently landed high-profile gigs in Die Hard 2 and Carlito’s Way. He later earned a Golden Globe Award for starring as the drag queen Chi-Chi Rodriguez in the 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. One of his most memorable performances (pictured above) was the flamboyant villain Tybalt in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. In recent years, he portrayed Aurelio in the first two John Wick movies, Ozzy Delvecchio in Bloodline, and Raymond Santana Sr. in When They See Us.

Leguizamo has a distinct New York accent and a big real-life personality, and he applies some of those personality traits to Gor Koresh in The Mandalorian, at least in terms of bravado. For the role, Leguizamo significantly lowers his natural speaking voice, and even talks a little bit like a New York gangster, most notably in the way he says “just enjoy the entertainment.” Whereas a fellow actor like Timothy Olyphant uses his natural speaking voice for a non-mask role as Cobb Vanth, Leguizamo transforms into someone else entirely for his Abyssin character. In general, the actor is rather well known for portraying fast-talking characters, so his role in The Mandalorian provides audiences with something rather different.
