The Pokémon Company announced Fusion Strike, the next major expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Hot on the heels of Evolving Skies’ release, The Pokémon Company isn’t one to keep fans of the collectible card game waiting. Fusion Strike is expected to add several significant cards to the English version of the game, alongside an all-new mechanic: The titular Fusion Strike Style.

“Pokémon with the Fusion Strike Style often have attacks that focus on teamwork and reinforce the idea of strength in numbers, as Fusion Strike Pokémon generally benefit when other Pokémon with this Battle Style are in play,” reads the official description of the mechanic. The Pokémon Company goes on to explain the Fusion Strike Style will also feature on Trainer and Special Energy cards, hopefully prompting players to build specialized Fusion Strike Style decks.

Sword and Shield – Fusion Strike will collectively add 20 Pokémon V and 13 full-art Pokémon V cards, eight Pokémon VMAX cards, 20 Trainer cards alongside seven full-art Supporter cards and one new Special Energy card. Fans will be able to collect the set through standard booster packs, Build & Battle Box kits or Elite Trainer boxes.

Fusion Strike continues expanding on the Battle Styles expansion which introduced two new mechanics to the game: Single Strike and Rapid Strike. These moves affect how Pokémon damage the opponent’s creature. Single Strike Pokémon traditionally deliver one massive, powerful knockout attack while Rapid Strike Pokémon deal several tactical blows to defeat their foes.

While fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game may be excited about Fusion Strikes, they’re in for a bit of a wait. The expansion is currently scheduled to launch around the world on Nov. 12. Until then, players and collectors alike can check out Evolving Skies, the most recent set, which features over 237 new cards… most of which are nothing but filler. Still, that alternative full-card art for Rayquaza VMAX is great!
