Horror sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night gets a full trailer, featuring an unfortunate family getting terrorized by a trio of masked killers. While the horror genre has had its ups and downs when it comes to mainstream popularity, there never really ceases to be a steady supply of new films released intending to terrify audiences. Perhaps the main reason for this is how cheap most horror is to make, at least when compared to other genres.

The annals of horror history are full of fright flicks that cost the Hollywood equivalent of pocket change, only to turn into massive theatrical hits. 2017 saw several such films, including Get Out – $254 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget – Split – $278 million worldwide on a $9 million budget – and Annabelle: Creation – $306 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. A little higher on the budget end – but still far from the cost of a tentpole blockbuster – was IT, which racked up nearly $700 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.

While not a profit machine on the level of the aforementioned films, 2008’s The Strangers still performed incredibly well for distributor Rogue Pictures. Written and directed by Bryan Bertino, The Strangers once again proved that the best horror stories are often the simplest. A married couple – played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman – are attacked and tormented in their secluded home by a trio of mysterious masked killers. The Strangers hauled in $82 million on a $9 million budget, and quickly earned a cult following. Now, a decade later, Aviron pictures is preparing to release sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night. Check out the new full trailer for the film above.

The Strangers: Prey at Night sees the return of the same trio of masked killers, but this time the stakes are upped, as an entire family is targeted at an isolated mobile home park. Bertino didn’t come back to direct, but he did co-write the script, alongside Ben Ketai. Assuming the director’s chair this time out is Johannes Roberts, helmer of last year’s sleeper hit indie shark flick 47 Meters Down.

Neither Tyler or Speedman is set to return for Prey at Night, with Mad Men star Christina Hendricks set to take over as leading lady. Also starring is Martin Henderson (Grey’s Anatomy), Bailee Madison (Once Upon a Time), and Lewis Pullman (Battle of the Sexes). Interestingly, the three killers will all be played by new actors, although that shouldn’t be jarring since they’re behind masks.
