Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 Updates Why It Didnt Happen

Here’s why comedy-horror sequel Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 hasn’t happened. Director Eli Craig’s feature film debut Tucker And Dale Vs Evil is one of the best horror/comedies of the past decade. A parody of hillbilly horror like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes, it stars Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as the titular duo – a pair of good-natured country boys taking a vacation in the woods to fix up their cabin who are mistaken for a couple of murderous rednecks by college kids camping in the area with bloody but hilarious consequences.

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil got a limited theatrical release in 2011 and wasn’t a big box office earner as a result, only just recouping its $5 million production budget. Nevertheless, the comedy-horror grew something of a cult following in the years following its release and in early 2014 news broke a sequel was in development.

Although Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk recently reunited in season 2 of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, the long-awaited Tucker And Dale sequel hasn’t happened six years later. Here’s why Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 hasn’t moved forward.

The Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 Script Was Bad

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 Updates Why It Didnt Happen

According to a report from Cinema Blend in 2017, Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk gave a rather disheartening update about the status of the sequel at that year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The stars stated a screenwriter – whose identity they didn’t know – had been hired to pen the script for Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2.

However, the script produced by the unknown screenwriter wasn’t good enough to get Eli Craig’s seal of approval, who penned the script for the first film with co-writer Morgan Jurgenson. As disappointing as that roadblock is, it’s good to know the cast and crew wouldn’t press ahead with a subpar sequel.

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 Might Still Happen … In Some Form

While the sequel is currently looking like a non-starter, Tyler Labine did drop some cryptic hints in an April 2019 interview with Broke Horror Fan that Tucker And Dale Vs Evil was going to continue in some form. Alongside confirming that he, Alan Tudyk and Eli Craig were all involved in the mystery project Labine stated:

“We’re working on something right now. I wouldn’t call it a film sequel, but the story is not done being told. I can’t really tell you much, but we’re in development with a couple things right now. Things are looking pretty good.”

By the sound of Labine’s statement, it looks like Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 won’t be happening in movie form, but that they will be continuing Tucker and Dale’s story in some way. Even without a movie, there are plenty of ways to revisit the characters like a TV show, web series or even a graphic novel. Whatever happens, it seems we haven’t seen the last of Tucker and Dale just yet.
