There might be yet another Pokémon game in the works according to a reported update from a high-ranking employee at The Pokémon Company. Nintendo’s long-running and massively successful monster-catching franchise has seen an influx of new and upcoming games recently, a trend that may not be slowing as other rumors claim more Pokémon news is coming in 2022.

Pokémon’s current release schedule has been busier than most fiscal years in the franchise’s history, so another series game being in the works is an interesting prospect. Most recently, MOBA title Pokémon Unite launched on Nintendo Switch and mobile to a generally positive player reception soured only by a reliance on free-to-play microtransactions. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the most imminent Pokémon releases on the horizon, as the remakes of the Nintendo DS-era Gen 4 are set to launch November 19. Shortly thereafter, the open-world Pokémon Legends: Arceus will come to Switch in January 28, promising to take the franchise in some interesting new directions with gameplay changes and its story set in the Hisui region, which later became Sinnoh. Now, it’s possible there’s one more Pokémon game to look forward to in the coming year if new information is accurate.

According to Nintendo Smash, The Pokémon Company International’s Andrew Lum has allegedly updated his LinkedIn page to include work on a new Pokémon game. Lum is a Senior Director for the company’s game studio division, and a Nintendo Smash-provided image credits his development oversight of an “unannounced Pokémon game” as ongoing since April 2020 (at the earliest). However, his LinkedIn page currently does not include this unrevealed game, possibly suggesting it has been edited or that it never existed.

Real or not, other major franchise announcements have come in time for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary this year, which have included several major celebrations and tie-ins over the past few months. Musicians like Katy Perry and Post Malone have collaborated with Nintendo for the commemorative Pokémon 25: The Album, a new Pokémon animated movie titled Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle is set to arrive on Netflix, and Oreo has released limited-edition Pokémon-themed cookies (which are also being sold online by scalpers for up to $25,000).

Because it appears the mysterious update on Andrew Lum’s LinkedIn page vanished as quickly as it surfaced, the image in question might be not be legitimate, so the information it carries shouldn’t necessarily be taken at face value. If it does turn out to be real, though, then a new Pokémon game could be announced in the near future.
