What To Expect From Selena Season 2

Selena: The Series part 1 doesn’t tell the full life story of its subject, so when will Selena: The Series part 2 release and what will it be about? Created by Moisés Zamora, the Netflix Original series is based on the late Selena Quintanilla, a Tejano superstar who was murdered in 1995 at age 23. Selena: The Series part 1 released in December 2020 on Netflix and chronicles the first 20 years of the subject’s life.

In Selena: The Series part 1, Christian Serratos stars in the title role. The early episodes detail Selena’s upbringing in Lake Jackson, Texas during the late ’70s and early ’80s, along with the events that led to her father Abraham (Ricardo Chavira) creating a family band. As “Selena y Los Dinos” gains popularity within the world of Tejano music, Abraham becomes especially protective of his daughter. Meanwhile, Selena’s brother A.B. (Gabriel Chavarria) develops the group’s sound and enlists a rock guitarist named Chris Pérez (Jesse Posey). The latter half of Selena: The Series part 1 focuses on the subject’s evolution as a woman and musical artist, with her sister/bandmate Suzette (Noemi Gonzalez) keeping a close eye on her personal life. Selena: The Series part 1 on Netflix consists of nine episodes.

The penultimate episode of Selena: The Series part 1 covers Selena’s first music video and her not-so-secret romance with bandmate Chris. By the finale, Abraham finally connects the dots and fires Chris on the spot. The episode also introduces the president of Selena’s fan club, Yolanda Saldiva (Natasha Perez), the woman who is responsible for singer’s tragic fate. Here’s everything we expect for Selena: The Series part 2 on Netflix.

Selena Season 2 Release Date

What To Expect From Selena Season 2

Selena: The Series part 2 has reportedly (via Elle) completed filming, so Netflix will presumably release new episodes in 2021. Given that Selena would’ve turned 50 years old on April 16, 2021, that date seems like an ideal time to premiere Selena: The Series part 2. However, Netflix may ultimately choose to widen the gap between the two installments.

Selena Season 2 Story Details

Selena: The Series part 1 ends in 1990 — approximately five years before her death. Selena releases her second album, Ven Conmigo, and appears to be on the verge of superstardom, yet Abraham mostly controls all aspects of her life. In subplots, A.B. experiences creative epiphanies as his sister’s long-time producer, while Suzette falls in love and can thus better understand Selena’s intense feelings for Chris.

For Selena: The Series part 2, the storyline will undoubtedly focus on Selena’s eventual marriage to Chris and her crossover success in the music industry. Interestingly, the second installment reportedly won’t spend much time on the 1995 murder of Selena by the aforementioned Saldiva but will rather celebrate her accomplishments and legacy as a groundbreaking Tejano artist. Acc0rding to Serratos (via The Oprah Magazine), she’ll deliver a more authentic performance in Selena: The Series part 2 on Netflix:

“The first part was nerve-racking because there was less footage for me to base my performance on. But at the same time it was more relaxed, because I got more liberty. People don’t know that version of Selena very much… Our second part we’re going to see a lot more of the icon. I had a lot more to base the performance on – but it was nerve-racking because people know that Selena so well. There was added pressure.”
