Why Pokémon GO Yveltal Raids Should Be Easy

The Pokémon GO Luminous Legends Y event will feature the debut of Yveltal to the popular mobile game from Niantic. Yveltal, the Dark and Flying-type Legendary from the Kalos region, will appear in five-star Raids giving players a new powerful Pokémon to add to their collection. Thankfully, it should be easier to acquire than some of the game’s previous Legendaries.

Unlike its Legendary counterpart Xerneas, who debuted in Pokémon GO in early May, Yveltal should be easier to defeat and capture. Xerneas is a pure Fairy-type Pokémon, giving it only two weaknesses to Poison and Steel. Poison isn’t very powerful in Pokémon GO, meaning Xerneas’ weaknesses are hard to exploit. However, Yveltal’s type is weak to some of the most common types in the game, which means it’s easier to damage during a Raid.

Pokémon GO trainers will have two weeks to come up with a strategy to take down Yveltal. The Legends Y event will start May 18, meaning players can encounter Yveltal in raids during this time. In addition to exploiting Yveltal’s weaknesses, some recently released Mega Evolutions and new Pokémon will help create an optimal team to take into battle against the Legendary Pokémon.

Pokémon GO Yveltal Raid Counters and Best Options

Since Yveltal is both a Dark and Flying type, this makes it weak to Fairy, Ice, Electric and Rock-type attacks. The Luminous Legends X event in early May flooded Pokémon GO with Fairy-type Pokémon that trainers could use on their teams in battle against Yveltal. Mega Altaria released during Swablu Community Day and is the first Fairy-type Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO so far. Its Fairy typing will resist any Dark-type attacks Yveltal uses and trainers who evolved their Swablu to Altaria during the Community Day should have access to the most powerful Fairy-type attack in the game: Moonblast. If trainers missed out on the event-exclusive move, Dazzling Gleam is also an option.

Mega Ampharos and Manectric are two Electric-type Mega Evolutions that will take advantage of Yveltal’s weakness as well as resist the Legendary’s Flying-type attacks. Both Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO have two strong Electric-type attacks to use and can boost the Electric moves of the Pokémon in every team battling in the raid. Tyranitar may be the best non-Mega option to battle Yveltal. Not only does it have two powerful Rock-type attacks, but its Rock and Dark typing will resist all Flying and Dark-type moves that Yveltal will likely use. Yveltal does have a chance to have Focus Blast as its Charged move, so players should be wary of that when using Tyranitar.

Trainers still looking for Fairy-type Pokémon to use will have more time to catch them in the overworld during the Luminous Legends Y event. According to the Pokémon GO blog, Fairy types like Swirlix and Spritzee will continue to appear. Sylveon, the Fairy-type evolution of Eevee, will also make its Pokémon GO debut starting May 25. All of these can be helpful for taking down Yveltal in-game.
