Will BOTW 2 Really Be Shown At The Game Awards 2021

With The Game Awards 2021 just around the corner, anticipation over whether more footage of Breath of The Wild 2 will be revealed is growing. Fans of the Legend of Zelda series have long been waiting for the sequel to BOTW, as only a few teasers have been shown in the five years that have passed since the original game released. Answers may come soon, though, as rumors around The Game Awards 2021 may have revealed a potential showcase for the game.

So far, BOTW 2 has only had two trailers, and both were at E3. The little information Nintendo has shared has been driving fans wild with anticipation. The game looks to be an amazing follow-up, and players only want more information about it. This is becoming discouraging to those waiting for Breath Of The Wild 2, though, as Nintendo has not even released the actual name of the game yet, leaving some to believe that it may not come out by the end of next year as expected.

However, fans may be able to get their hopes up for BOTW 2 during The Game Awards 2021. A producer of the event tweeted a potential leak about a big game reveal at the award show, and hungry Zelda fans immediately began speculating it was about BOTW 2. Despite the hype, fans should be wary about getting too excited, because even if another Breath Of The Wild 2 trailer is revealed at the 2021 Game Awards, Nintendo may not reveal all of its secrets.

BOTW 2’s Reveal Will Probably Be Small Scale (If Shown At All)

The speculation over a potential BOTW 2 reveal at The Game Awards 2021 started when video game journalist and event producer Geoff Keighley tweeted he was excited about a world premiere for a game from a major developer. Zelda fans feel certain this tweet must have been in reference to Breath of the Wild 2 because the game was revealed around two-and-a-half years ago and the lack of reference to the developer’s name makes it seem that it would be a giveaway if said (like “Nintendo” would be). And with five years between when BOTW came out and now, it seems about time that Nintendo should start ramping up press about the new sequel.

Just saw the final cut of a #thegameawards world premiere we have been working on with a developer for 2.5 years. Truly honored we are entrusted to share this work with the world.

However, the growing hype around a potential reveal may be for naught. First of all, Nintendo has only revealed information about BOTW 2 at E3, and the developer usually reveals big titles in its own press releases via Nintendo Directs. Nintendo is known to get stuck in patterns, so it is unlikely it would stray away from one now. Second, there is so little known about Breath Of The Wild 2 at the moment that it is unlikely there would be a huge reveal now – unless it were to announce its official title. Nintendo does not want give up all of its secrets too early, as doing so would lower the anticipation of a game that is scheduled to release sometime in 2022.

Zelda fans should thus expect little to no information from The Game Awards 2021 to protect themselves from disappointment. If a huge reveal is coming, it is likely to be for another title, and if any news about the BOTW 2 is discussed, it is likely to be about its title being uncovered and little more. Despite this possibly bad news, those waiting for Breath Of The Wild 2 can at least feel happy knowing that Nintendo probably isn’t going to rush out the game before it’s ready.
